Kitale

We made it to Kitale safely after a long and CRAZY bus ride. It started pouring in the last two hours and the roads were so insane I cant believe a bus was able to drive on them; potholes and ditches everywhere. I was so great to be able to see so much of the country though, it is absolutely beautiful and so different than I expected. There are TONS of trees and plants and animals and people walking around everywhere. Sheep are tied on the side of the road with cows and tons of donkeys. We say some gazelle and baboons along the drive as well.

a slum in Kipsongo....

along the drive....

The compound where were staying is so nice and comfortable. There are a few houses with a main one and a kitchen. We have cows and a dog that live here and a groundskeeper and a few others that work here. Its totally protected and guarded, and very safe.

Friday we were able to sleep in (not really sleeping in for me but according to everyone else, we slept in…haha) and then we walked about 5 minutes to Oasis of Hope. It’s a drop in center for street children. It is sort of like an orphanage except many of these children have parents but spend their days on the street and sniffing glue, which they use as a drug. Oasis of Hope takes these kids in during the day as long as they don’t sniff glue and don’t fight. They provide breakfast and lunch and an education for over 100 kids a day. Its amazing.

some boys in Kitale....

The children were SO cute and were so excited to see us. They just ran and jumped all over us and watched get high fives and hugs and shake our hands and learn our names. They LOVE getting their picture taken and also taking pictures (: We got a quick tour of the place and played with the kids for a while before heading into town (about a 20 minute walk).

they love pictures....

Kitale is so cute with tons of shops and markets. We stick out so much and everyone just stares but are so friendly and greet us. We walked around for a little bit and rode on the back of motorcycles home. Im definitely not used to the time change yet and still exhausted but ill get into the swing of things soon.
